Dawki-The Land of Umngot
Dawki is a small town on the India Bangladesh border in meghalaya. It is around 80 kms from the state capital Shilong and lies in the west Jainta hils. There is a river passing through clled Umngot and it has become famous of late because of it's crystal clear waters.Nature here,as you would expect, is totally unspoilt. And the water is so clear that on a sunny day you can easily see right down to the river bed.

From shilong we take the NH40.It passes through the lush green East Khasi hills for almost the entire distance.Road condition are mostly good. This is the Mawkong view point around 30 kms from shilong. It is a good option(place)to take a break.Just look at that view!
After Pynursala, the scenery flattens out and you get to see these vast expanses.Although it appears brownish right now,I can only imagine, how green and beautiful this place must become during the monsoons. After Pongtung, the road crosses though a forest and it become quit bad.
Finally, we have reached Dawki that's the umngot river.Main town is a little further ahead. That is the international border the hills on both sides are (in) India while the plains that you see lie in Bangladesh.
And you are off! and you can't belive this water. It's just unbelievably clear.I mean, yes,I have seen water this clear, but never in an area which is populated this much.I mean there is no dearth of people around and yet you see this water is absolutely crystal clear. You must appreciate the people here who have treasured the nature in such a way and kept it so pristine. It get's a little interesting here. The depth has certainly increased quite a bit and you can clearly see the effect of erosion over the years on these cliffs.Beautiful sunset glow on the cliffs on the other side..❤❤
